Colleen Kelley, Teacher:
"I teach English to 11th grade students, and some seniors too, and they're doing really well with What's the Word?. It's interesting to me that by watching the video tape just one time, they learned and retained most of the words! They seem to particularly enjoy studying with the flashcards. Scores have dramatically improved, and the thing that is really surprising to me is that, through this program, they're retaining at least 50% of previously taught What's the Word? material when they are unaware they are going to be tested–that didn't happen often before I started teaching with What's the Word?! The kids like singing lyrics to a lot of the songs, and one student just wrote a story using many of the words he'd learned from the program. Of course, North Dallas High School is the First International High School of Texas, with over 30 different nationalities represented. So with over 50% of these students learning English as a second language, this unique program is particularly valuable."

Mayra M., Student:
Spanish is her first language. She learned English at 12 or 13 years of age and was in ESL for 2 years.
"In my opinion I think all the English classes should had this program."

Chu V., Student:
His native language is Vietnamese. He learned English at 12 and was in ESL for one year.
"My opinion about the vocabulary program is positive. I really love it, it help me increase my vocabulary knowledge a lot. The card was big and easy to learn, furthermore, it also have the picture on the card so we can easy infer out what the word mean. The book is full of explanation and examples for us to learn. I was really appreciate to my teacher that gave me this. I also will recommend it to my friends."
